2022 Sunday Times Giving List

July 2022

The 2022 Sunday Times Giving List, prepared in collaboration with Charities Aid Foundation (CAF), came out on in May. The Giving List highlights how major giving is evolving, with increasing emphasis on donations to environmental causes, along with the new generation of younger philanthropists and next generation givers.

A few headlines:

  • Number 1 on the Giving List this year is Sir Chris Hohn, with a wealth of £2.6m. His recent donations total £374.4m, with beneficiaries including children’s health.

  • The top woman donor Harriet Heyman enters the ranking list at number 10, with donations of £4.63m.

  • There have been more great acts of generosity, compassion, and determination to affect change from many donors who work with CAF to deliver on their giving objectives.

  • There has been a significant rise in environmental donations, where despite a global pandemic, the climate crisis has captured the attention of so many.

  • The new generation of younger philanthropists are using their platforms to exert influence and amplify the impact of significant sums of money responding to climate change.

  • More social movements are driving the agenda towards positive social progress with younger donors seeking to get actively involved in producing tangible impact.

  • There is a rise of younger change-makers of colour using their positions and success to promote change, as illustrated by some of the famous names in this year’s Giving List.

As always, the PFG team will be taking an in-depth look at this list to see what lessons we can draw to help our clients find their best major gift prospects. Our July webinar will look more in depth into the wealth landscape.
