About the role
If you are interested in fundraising and the charity sector and enjoy researching individuals, their philanthropic interests and links to companies and charitable organisations, this is the role for you.
As a research assistant, you will help gather research based information to enhance our database and work with the team to deliver research reports to our clients who come from across the not for profit sector.
The role will initially involve a significant amount of data entry, which is crucial for keeping our database up to date. This will enable you to develop an excellent understanding of our database and the information we have available to us for our research.
You will develop your research, analysis and communication skills while preparing high quality research reports for clients and learning about data protection and compliance.
You will be working with team members and clients. Therefore, having strong interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate with a wide variety of people to build effective working relationships and work well as part of a team is critical.
The Prospecting for Gold team are all home based, with weekly team meetings via video conference as well as daily interaction with other team members via email, telephone and video conferencing. We also have face to face team meetings from time to time, often in the Henley on Thames area.
You may be asked to attend face to face training and induction sessions, most likely in the Henley on Thames area.
Main responsibilities:
- Gather information from publicly accessible data sources about high net worth individuals, companies and grant making trusts.
- Update our database (Raisers Edge).
- Assist with data analysis.
- Assist with our database screening programme which may include using screening tools and preparing reports identifying major donor prospects.
- Compiling clear and concise briefings and prospect reports for our varied range of clients in the charity sector. This may include reports on individuals, grant making trusts and corporates as well as competitor research.
- Provide support/data entry to the research team as required.
- Assisting with responding to enquiries from current and prospective clients by telephone and email.
Key requirements
- An inquisitive mind and natural instinct for research.
- Excellent research and writing skills, with the ability to analyse and combine data from a wide variety of sources, and present the resulting information in a clear way.
- Experience in using on-line resources for research.
- A good working knowledge of Word and Excel; experience of CRM databases would be helpful.
- Attention to detail.
- Good use of English grammar, punctuation and spelling.
- Accurate keyboard skills.
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate with a wide variety of people and to build effective working relationships and work well as part of a team.
- Sensitivity and discretion in dealing with confidential information.
