Three tips for reinvigorating your major gift fundraising

Are you ready to reinvigorate your major gift fundraising and get the support you need to deliver your organisation’s services? We have over 25 years experience working with not-for-profit organisations to transform their fundraising and we’ve distilled (some) of what we know into three tips for reaching your fundraising goals.

1. Wealth screen your existing database

A well-planned wealth screening (undertaken in line with data protection requirements) has the ability to transform your fundraising. We’ll screen your existing supporter database against our Wealth Intelligence Database. Wealth screening will help you identify who among your existing supporters has the capacity to make transformational gifts to your cause, if any of your supporters are known philanthropists, and who has the capacity to become a major gift donor. It can also identify the business leaders that already give to your charity who could open doors to new corporate partnership opportunities.

2. Use a ‘new names’ service to boost your fundraising

Using our new names service to identify people who have both the ability to give and affinity to your cause can be a great way of boosting your prospect pool.  This can include people who may be connected to your networks – maybe just one or two steps away from you, You can read more about our new names service here

3. Undertake some more in-depth prospect research

Prospect research is a sure-fire way to boost your fundraising. Our research team can help you with more in depth briefing notes to help you better understand your current and potential major donors.  These can be invaluable as you build your relationships with new supporters.  Ensuring  your fundraisers to be well briefed before meetings and events will help build strong, successful philanthropic relationships with your most significant donors.

Remember, before you do any prospect research there are a few key things you need to do.  These include undertaking a data protection impact assessment, making your fair processing policy available to your supporters, and letting them know of any changes you’ve made to it. We’ve written about these before.

Our team provides research, wealth screening, consultancy, regulatory compliance and training support to charities of all sizes, making fundraising more effective and successful. We’ll help you learn more about the people who support your cause, give you detailed insight into your best prospects and identify new ones, whether they be wealthy individuals, grant makers or institutional funders. We’ll also work with you to develop the best strategy for approaching them.
