Wealth screening has been shrouded in mystery and misinformation for far too long. We’re starting the new year by setting the record straight. With 27 years of experience, we can reveal what wealth screening can really tell you about your supporters (and what it can’t).
What is wealth screening?
Wealth screening might sound complex, but we can assure you it’s not. When we talk about wealth screening, we’re talking about comparing the information in our Wealth Intelligence Database with the information in your supporter database.
Essentially, we’re looking for matches. A match is a high-net-worth (HNW) individual who appears on both our database and yours. And that makes them a potential major donor for your cause. We’ve been building our Wealth Intelligence Database for 27 years, and it contains information on 270,000 HNW and well-connected individuals in the UK.
What can wealth screening tell you about your supporters?
Wealth screening can help you understand your existing supporters on a deeper level by providing information on how many HNW individuals are on your database and possible connections to corporates and grant-making trusts. Once your wealth screen is complete, we’ll send you a Data Summary Report. This is a one-page summary that provides an overview of matches to our Wealth Intelligence Database. It’s broken down by the number of matches, match rate and includes a breakdown of matches by:
- Wealth band
- Age
- Constituent attributes
- Match level – individual or household (family) level
- Million Pound Properties
What can’t wealth screening tell you about your supporters?
Wealth screening can help you determine a person’s potential as a major donor through their capacity (ability to give), affinity (interest in your cause) and proximity (how easy they are to reach). But without further research, it doesn’t reveal their motivation for giving.
Wealth screening is a shortcut to getting to know your donors better, but it will never replace building meaningful long-term relationships with your supporters.
What’s the best way to use wealth screening?
Wealth screening can be used as one part of your major gift fundraising toolkit to help you build relationships and deepen trust with your supporters. When you understand a person’s capacity, affinity and proximity, you can tailor your fundraising approach and build stronger relationships with them.
Regular wealth screening can help to keep developing prospects and top up the pipeline as people progress through your funnel. With the right approach and engagement, wealth screening can play a vital role in successful major gift fundraising.
